FORTAN pyrolysis plants can recycle  various carbon containing waste: used tires,  plastic and medical waste,  roofing materials,  oil refining waste (oil slime), hereinafter referred to as "waste".

A reactor is made of stainless steel to increase the term of service for 10 years. ( the service term of  the reactor of ordinary steel is not more than 10-12 loads ( a week), after that period the walls and bottom of the equipment are almost completely burned and the necessity to repair of  the reactor appears.

Pyrolysis (from Greek. pyr - fire, heat and lysis - decomposition) is a thermal decomposition of the organic compounds in the absence of oxygen. Raw material (waste) is loaded inside the container of heat-resistant material (retort). The retort is placed into the oven. Raw material is heated by the heat transfer through the retort walls and thermally decomposed ( this process is named pyrolysis) forming a mixture of steam and gas and carbon residue. Steam gas mixture goes out of the retort through the pipeline, cooled, then comes to the storage tank and farther to the condensers to separate the gases from the splashes of the liquid. The liquid is collected in a storage tank; gas, partially or wholly is used to support the pyrolysis process, is burned or used to heat greenhouses, offices and so on. At the end of the pyrolysis process the retort with carbon black must be unloaded from the oven and the other retort with raw material is placed into it.

FORTAN plant consists of: retort oven, retort, refrigeration complex, condensers, gas liquid separators. The retort oven is vertical, the oven shaft is lined with heat-resistant concrete and high-temperature thermal insulation on the basis of ceramic wool The fire-bars and gas jet to burn the combustible gases are installed in the bottom of the shaft. The intensification of burning and mixing of flue gases is achieved by the air blowing. The retort with raw material is placed into the shaft of the oven through its opened top. Retort is a cylindrical container of heat-resistant steel, with a lid. Special shutters around the perimeter of contact surfaces of the retort and the oven ensure the sealing of the internal space of the furnace. The refrigeration complex is intended for cooling and condensation of gases of liquid pyrolysis products. Gas-steam mixture comes to the refrigeration complex from the retort. Condensed and uncondensible gases come to the separator through the pipe-line. The separator is a cylindrical container for collecting of the liquid pyrolysis products and partial catching of liquid splashes from the gas stream. The final cleaning of gas from the liquid splashes is carried out in the gas-liquid separator. Combustible gases are forwarded to the gas-jet and / or other users.

        Retort with raw materials is loaded outside the oven in a horizontal or vertical position. After loading the retort lid must be closed.  Retort could be installed in a hot oven or in cold one (at startup). For the ignition of the oven solid fuel (wood, coal, semi coke) is loaded onto the fire-bars through the oven door and burned. The intensification of the burning process is provided by air blowing  under the fire-bars, the intensification of gas mixing and regulation of the temperature in the oven is provided with the air blowing through the air nozzle of a burner. Pyrolysis gas comes to the burner and inflames. With increasing of the gas current the air blowing onto the fire-bars is to be decreased. The end of the pyrolysis process is determined by the reducing of the gas current. To obtain the high-quality carbon the process must be carried out to the cessation of gas ("calcination"). At the end of the process it is necessary to stop the air-blowing and the gas current for about 30 minutes to reduce the temperature of the retort and oven lining before the retort unloading. After reducing of the temperature the retort is disconnected off the refrigeration complex pipeline, and unloaded from the oven. The other retort with raw materials can be installed into the oven. Unloaded hot retort is cooled in the air (with the closed lid). After cooling they open the retort lid and discharge the carbon by overturning.

        Fire-resistant concrete and ceramic fibers provide the high durability and longevity of the oven lining (the estimated lifetime of the oven is not less than 10 years in comparison to the ovens made on the basis of ordinary steel (the estimated lifetime of those is less than six months)). Concrete lining is maintainable. At the end of the service life the worn lining can be replaced. Air blowing allows to burn low-grade fuels and to minimize the time of the oven heating. The retort of the heat-resistant steel is very resistant to the service conditions and has a small mass. The removable retorts allow continuous operation of the plant. Carbon  black cooling inside the closed retorts in the air allows to avoid the extinguishing with the water and  thus reduce the environmental load. Unloading by overturning allows to avoid the labour-intensive, slow and dangerous manual unloading. The removable retort can be repaired, the most intensively used and non massive part of the retort (bottom) can be changed. The pipelines of steam-gas and refrigeration complex are made in a way  to facilitate the cleaning of the  possible deposits.

        The optimal temperature area of the technological process is 350-400 ° C, the following products are obtained (used tires pyrolysis):

- The liquid fraction  ( synthetic oil, pyrolysis oil) -36-45%;

- Pyrolysis gases to 12%;

- Carbon black  up to 40%;

- Metal  scrap 8%.

Depending on the type of raw material used the fluctuations in the volumes of products received are possible.

On the request of the customer the plants can be completed with the automatic control system.  ACS is intended for the continuous control and management of the pyrolysis process. The application of ACS guarantees the improvement of the quality of the products received, energy saving, optimization of the production time. The cost of the automatics is 45% of the cost of the pyrolysis plant.
